Oh, what a difference!! The cookies are delicious. So yummy!!! I never realized Crisco had a shelf life! And it is now as far away from the oven wall as possible. Thanks for the help!!adrianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01195625430374389838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-75662742300739922.post-28892379136927527622013-10-24T21:46:01.393-04:002013-10-24T21:46:01.393-04:00Yeah, shortening really shouldn't have a smell...Yeah, shortening really shouldn't have a smell if it is fresh. Who knows when the container in the cupboard was purchased. I didn't realize heat could affect the taste and now that I think about it the pantry is right next to the oven and the crisco is next to that shared wall. We'll see how take two goes next week. Thanks!adrianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01195625430374389838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-75662742300739922.post-50370910497414959222013-10-24T17:54:05.108-04:002013-10-24T17:54:05.108-04:00I haven't frozen any, so I'd love to know ...I haven't frozen any, so I'd love to know how that goes for you :)Tina @ Sugar Bean Bakershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03921126867393479538noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-75662742300739922.post-85436739766458555022013-10-24T17:53:29.246-04:002013-10-24T17:53:29.246-04:00I'm wondering if your shortening was strong? Exposed to heat that would make it taste strong or just old?

I've made these cookies twice with no issues like you said, and my go to Snickerdoodle cookies also contain shortening. You can't taste it in that either.

I do recommend Crisco in particular as I noted in the recipe. The friend in question loves pumpkin spice lattes, so I thought these would be a great accompaniment.

I'm not sure what happened, but when they were baked, all I could taste, or smell for that matter, was the shortening. I even had some friends try them the next day, but no luck. Now I really, really want to conquer these cookies. Any suggestions on how to adjust the butter/shortening ratio or the recipe in general? adrianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01195625430374389838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-75662742300739922.post-38981212930528272302013-10-22T19:04:45.357-04:002013-10-22T19:04:45.357-04:00oh, my, I got so excited I posted twice =P

I froze 3/4 of the dough in rolls so we can easily bake up a dozen when we want but the first batch was the best. I have to figure out how long to defrost them before baking to get the most puff =)rubelinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13052558109295824981noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-75662742300739922.post-71039414866494011072013-10-09T16:25:33.476-04:002013-10-09T16:25:33.476-04:00I swore off pumpkin for the blog this year but not...I swore off pumpkin for the blog this year but not for MAH BELLY!!
