{Delicious Summer Drinks}

As the thermometer heads up, you can keep cool with these drinks that I've posted.

They are yummy, and, my favorite thing, EASY.

Easy is especially great on a hot day!

Stay cool, my friends!

{ Peach Banana Smoothie }

The Bean loves smoothies, as I mentioned in this post.

I was buying them at restaurants and coffee shops until I realized how EASY they were to make.

I make them for him nearly every day. I know he's getting all his fruits that way.

Hand him a bowl of fruit, you'll come back to a full bowl of fruit.

Hand him a smoothie, you'll come back to a, HEY MOM, IS THERE ANYMORE? shout.

The original recipe I posted it good for a host of fruits.

The norm that I make for him is Strawberry Banana or Strawberry Banana Blueberry.

I've also thrown in grapes.

For this one, I went way outside his normal box and made it with peaches & honey.

It made for a tasty change.

Here's what you need:

Peach Banana Smoothie
Recipe by Tina @Sugar Bean Bakers

1 peach (or nectarine)- peeled, pit removed & sliced
1 banana (also peeled ;)
1/3 cup  yogurt*
1/3 cup of milk**
1 Tablespoon honey
splash of vanilla
4 ice cubes
(mine are the 1/2 moon size from my ice maker)

In a blender/processor that can chop ice:

blend until you stop hearing the ice clink around. Usually about 1-2 minutes.

Taste, you can add more honey if you need.

*for this recipe you can use plain yogurt, peach, vanilla, or honey
also note if you use Greek Yogurt, you may need a little more milk as it is thicker.
I prefer Greek yogurt. I love Greek Gods Yogurt.

**use any milk you like, Fat Free, Skim, 2%, Whole, soy, etc.
I actually used Almond Milk for the one in the photo.

You can adjust the ratio of milk/yogurt for the consistency you like, this is how
the Bean prefers his. It's not too thick, not too thin.

This makes one large smoothie or 2 small smoothies.

The Bean drinks it all.

ALL.

{In the Meantime}

IMG_5564

We've had quite the busy crazy summer!

The Bean was in a play, so for the month of June, we drove back and forth for daily rehearsals.

45 minutes.
Each way.

I'm not even sure what happened in July, it passed in a haze that was 17 days in a row of heat over 90 degrees. That alone, wouldn't be so bad, but in Ohio... we have dripping, disgusting, nastiful humidity. The Heat Index each day was at LEAST 100 degrees. Most days it fell between 105 and 110.

Nice.

Then came August. The Bean, once again, was full of Drama. Well, for Drama Camp, I mean. This brought me back to driving daily, 45 minutes each way, for camp (which was, obviously, not a sleep a way camp).

Last week, he started High School.

That's just crazy. But is, apparently, a fact.

I'm in denial.

So, now, 'normal' life resumes. I'm clicking, and leafing through recipes. I'll be back soon.

In the meantime, the smoothie recipe I posted earlier in the summer is a perfect after school snack.

Filling, nutritious, and delicious!

{ Easy To Make Smoothie }

The Bean?

He loves him some smoothies.

I can’t even enumerate the different locations that I’ve purchased smoothies for this child.

He’s a Smoothie Operator.

I decided to give this thing a go here at home.

How did it turn out?

Smooth, baby.

For this recipe, like the Frozen Strawberry Lemonade recipe, you will also need a blender that will crush ice.

Quick, simple, inexpensive, and loaded with good stuff.

Here’s what’s on the list:
IMG_5539
I love the Greek Gods Greek yogurt. You can use whatever you want, but this brand isn’t full of artificial ingredients and colorings.

If I’m making a strawberry based smoothie, I like to use the Athena – which is Strawberry and Honey. For others, such as a peach smoothie, I use the Hermes which is just a honey yogurt. As I said though, you can use any basic plain yogurt, vanilla, or in this case, strawberry, of your choice.

Moving along (you’d think Greek Gods was sponsoring me, eh? I wish!).

I use about 3 and a half cups of fruit. For this smoothie, I used Strawberries, banana, and a handful of blueberries.

nom.

I've also been known to sneak in a handful of spinach!

Throw in 2/3 cups of yogurt (again, here I’m using the strawberry and honey-see, white, not fakey pink, in case you missed that. ha.).

IMG_5547
Now add:

1/2 cup milk (I use skim)

1 teaspoon vanilla (you know how I love my vanilla)

Sugar to taste (optional)-

and 8 ice cubes (I use the the half moon shaped ice cubes from my ice maker)

I blend until I can stop hearing the ice clinking around. Usually about 1 minute.
And….

Top with whipped topping if desired.

Delicious summer treat. Low fat, full of fruit, and refreshing!

mmmmmmmmm……

and of course my favorite part? This recipe saves me a ton of cash!

Thankyouverymuch.

Hope you enjoy it, the Bean sure does!
